One hundred pilots

It is really bitter/sweet feeling when we look at the list of registerd pilots. Today the last pilot signed on the waiting list - and yes - he has got number 100. Only 50, or max 60, pilots will be allowed to compete becouse of safety reasons. Our main safety concern is overcrowding on launch, specialy on east launch, and overcrowding in the limited airspace while waiting the start marker to open. We are still waiting Aeros people to provide us a list of pilots invited by them - those pilots will get into the competition regardless of the registration order.

Waypoints

We prepared waypoints files for 2012 Aeros Winter Race - you can download them on our web page. There are some new waypoints on the list, and we added Tolmin area waypoints as well. Who knows, perhaps the weather will be great and we might use them... Right now we have 79 registered pilots on the list - it is to bad that take off area is to small for everybody.

Registration filled up quickly

On November 29th we opened the registration - and we have full house already! The registration is still open, of course, but pilots are now signing to the waiting list. We will ask top 50 pilots on the registration list if they are comming to the comp for sure - this will happen 14 days before the competition starts - and places of those who will decide not to come will be given to the pilots on the waiting list. We still have about three month to go...

So, we are getting close to another episode of Aeros Winter Race. Web page and registration is ready, so it is the facebook event. Registration is open - just to remind everybody - we only have place for 50 pilots - well maybe 60 if the weather will be kind to us, and we will be able to use big take off place at Kovk. Stay tuned.

Day 5

Weather stayes on the bad side. We had to cancel the day again. This years competition is not valid, however Aeros made a very positive move when they decided to give a half value prizes anyway. Thank you Aeros!

Day 4

Again we have strong wind up to 144km/h in the valley. So the task is canceled. We have hope for tomorrow but the forcast is not very promising.

Day 3

FINNALY! Todays forcast was realy not optimistic. The wind should be the same as the day before and lift should be less. According to the forcast we set the 38km long task, after a lot of saftey concerns. But the day was epic - some pilots was as high as 2500m and a short task was done in 43 minutes! Primož Gričar, followed by Edoardo Giudiceandrea, Franz Hermann and Manfred Ruhmer. There was around 40 pilots in goal and there was a lot of smiling faces around!

Day 2

We were full of hope this morning... We went to launch place and set the task - it was short, 46 km only, but we felt that is fair one. We still had strong NE wind at higher altitudes and it showed it's teeth. After half of pilots took off safety commite reported heavy turbulance just few km towards first turnpoint. We canceled the day for safety reasons... We hope for better weather tomorow...

Day 1

The forecast for today looked realy bad this morning - and even forse - it come true. NE winds sets in with more than 10 m/s and we canceled the day after little postponding the morning briefing. We went to the launch place later just to check our decision - we found that we did the right thing. We hope for better condidtion tomorow and in next days.

Regsitration day

Today we had the registration day, winds were howling again outside - only 100km/h at 8pm this year (last year it was close to 200). However almost all pilots flew on the western launch today - in the lift somwere around 1,5 m/s and some wind traps around the flyable area. We hope that wind will die down in next few days...

Long term forcast are predicting fair weather for the second set of dates of Aeros Winter Race! So we will start with the pilot registration on Tuesday (Feb. 22nd) as scheduled. We hope to have first competition day on Wednesday. See you all in Vipava valley!

The Aeros Winter Race is postponded

Decision has been accepted! We had to postpond the Aeros Winter Race to reserve date due to bad weather forcast. This means that the race starts on Tuesday, February 22nd with registration, on Wednesday 23rd we will hopefully have first competition day!

We sent out the confirmation mails. We decided that we will accept 60 pilots becouse of well prepared launch places.

Overbooked

It's realy a pitty that our launch has limited capacity - otherwise we could accomodate much more more pilots than 50 or 60. However, on winter race 2010 we had 70+ as well, but much less realy showed up for the competition - mainly becouse the weather. We will see how this will worked out in 2011... At least we appeal to pilots who will not come (and they know that now allready) to contact us to make space for others.

Aeros Winter Race 2011

We, the organizing team, are very pleased to announce that AEROS has decided to have another Aeros Winter Race in 2011 in Slovenia again. We hope to have good weather in Vipava valley between february 16th and 27th to get some good early spring flying. Check back soon for more news!
